Synopsis

Austrian Animated Experiments – 30 Years ASIFA AUSTRIA

Animation produced in Austria will most likely not entertain you with singing teapots, heroic toy-astronauts and flying elephants. It may be considered as destiny, fortune or accident, but so far Austria has not developed a production environment for animation that can be seen as an industry. In the wake of the experimental animation, ASIFA AUSTRIA was founded in 1985. Headed by Hubert Sielecki, Thomas Renoldner and Stefan Stratil this plattform was crucial for the infrastructure and strengthening of experimental animated films by publishing books about austrian animation history, curating programms and donating prizes at festivals, organizing exhibitions and symposiums.

„Ways to abstraction“  contains an overview about different forms of abstract animation in Austria.
