The feature-length Extraordinary Tales weaves various classical tales of Edgar Allan Poe into a colourful mosaic of horror-stories. The viewer gets to know Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Facts in the Case of Mr Valdemar, The Masque of Red Death and The Pit and the Pendulum.
Each of the five tales is presented in a different style. The individual style of each tale corresponds exactly to the contents and to the characters of each story, adding power and tension to the horror that the audience is experiencing. All the tales are united by Poe’s characteristic death theme, yet expressed differently in each story. The dialogue between Poe and death is gripping and gives the viewer a little nudge to interpret the writer’s relationship with death.
Extraordinary Tales offers a soft dark viewing and conjures up the atmosphere of psychological horror stories with masterful storytelling and enticing visuals. Each film is created by the most outstanding directors on the horror-film landscape: Sir Christopher Lee, Bela Lugos, Julian Sands, roger Corman and Guillermo del Toro.
